Hinse

Validating God

Score: 94

Rating: Hold

Shut Up and Play the Hits is a documentary about the final concert played by the band LCD Soundsystem. It’s an apt title; because as much as fans might appreciate your obscure ‘deep cuts’ — in the end — you’ll always be remembered for the classics. The classics are what they come to hear. The songs that inspired people to become fans of your work in the first place.

Looking back at all of the different NFT drops that Theta Labs has produced over the past months — I’m always drawn back to the Hinse lineup. Due in part because it was only after witnessing the wizardy of Hinse, that the lightbulb finally turned on — and I understood what NFT’s were and what ThetaDrop could become.

With Hinse, you won’t find a road map filled with sweeteners such as NFT staking. You won’t be getting ThetaPass or metaverse integration or a private key to a Discord. And sometimes — you know what — who really cares. Because sometimes the art; and the moment in time that the art represents just stands on it’s own.

In some ways, the Hinse drop represents the old guard of NFT’s — that brief time when an NFT was just an NFT. And as we move briskly into the utility era of NFT’s — it’s almost quaint that this drop exists at all. The world is changing rapidly and I suppose nostalgia too can now take hold quicker, as little as just seven months ago.

This drop included four phone-themed VFX gems: Elite Edge Node Upgrade, Theta Symbiosis, Burning Paradise andValidating Gods. Additionally, a 10 edition release of the legendary Ancient Thetan. All four of these NFT’s — much like the ThetaZilla badges — represent the launch of ThetaDrop — the quintessential OG’s of TDrop.

Sure, you can knock the NFT’s for their lack of utility. You can also criticize the quantity of both EENU and Symbiosis (they were open editions.) And in the end, short-term price action will likely stagnate just from the sheer volume of inventory. But with a long-term horizon and assuming the obvious — that Theta becomes a monster market cap coin — just consider this:

Imagine that back in the 80’s when the very first Apple Computer commercial was broadcast to Americans. Imagine then, that people could have purchased a non-fungible token of that 60 second advertisement… What would that be worth today?

Now, those 4,598 editions of Theta Symbiosis doesn’t look all that daunting at all.

If you are bullish ThetaDrop long-term, then you ought to be uber-bullish Hinse’s inaugural drop. It’s a time capsule of TDrop’s origins and Theta’s pivotal foray into NFT’s.

In the end, after a short hiatus, LCD Soundsystem couldn’t stay away — reuniting in 2015. Similarly, we are likely to see more Hinse drops in the future. But no matter what comes next from the Austrian VFX artist — there will always be only one O.G. Hinse drop.
